Abby Elliott Gibson
11/30/1999 - 6/3/2010
Abby was a loving little girl that brought joy into every life she touched. She is remembered as a happy and spirited little girl who squeezed everything she could into each day. She loved to laugh and had a smile that would light up the room. Abby was full of compassion and was a friend to everyone she met, especially if they shared her love of animals.
She loved all animals, especially horses. Abby started taking weekly riding lessons when she was five years old and the barn quickly became her second home. She rode English and took lessons in jumping and dressage. Her favorite times were the week long riding camps held each summer that included days full of: horseback riding, learning how to care for horses, playing games, and spending time with the horses and her riding friends.
Abby loved not only horses, but almost every other animal as well. Whether she was visiting the zoo and learning about elephants; going on a hike and seeing a chipmunk; reading a book with her best furry friend, Tyson the Boxer; watching a movie about humpback whales; or riding her favorite horse, Summer, she enjoyed every minute she spent with animals.
Her bond with animals was very special and she often referred to meeting or seeing an animal as “making a new friend.” She said that animals understood her and she understood them. Abby was passionate about helping her animal friends and was constantly telling everyone of her plans to become a veterinarian. She had only just completed the fourth grade, but she couldn’t wait to become a veterinarian.
Tragically, Abby passed away on June 3, 2010 from injuries she sustained in a horseback riding accident. She was only ten years old. Although she is no longer here, she will still make a difference in the lives of people and animals through her veterinary medicine scholarship and through the many charitable projects done in her memory. Abby touched so many lives and will continue to do so.
